Peter Heals the Sick

After some angry men killed a Christian [Stephen], angry [Jewish religious] officials began putting Christians in jail. So, many Christians fled [scattered / ran away] to other provinces [places], telling others about Jesus wherever they went. (Most of the apostles continued to live [reside] at Jerusalem and travel to other places.)

The apostle named Peter traveled to many other towns, telling people about Jesus.

In one town, Peter saw a man who could not walk. That man had not stood on his feet for eight years.

Peter spoke to the man, saying, “Sir! The Lord Jesus is healing you. Stand up on your feet. Roll up your mat!” The man stood up and started walking.

When everyone in that town and nearby towns saw that man walking, many people put their trust in Jesus.

In those days, a Christian woman in another town used to help poor people by making clothes for them. Her name was Tabitha.

Tabitha become sick and soon died. Her friends washed her body [prepared her for burial] and laid her [on a mat] in a room.

Some Christians heard that Peter was in a nearby town, so they went to see him. They said to Peter, “Please come with us, quickly.”

Peter went with them. They came to the house where Tabitha lay dead. Some widows showed to Peter clothes that Tabitha made for them before she died.

Peter made everyone go out from the room where Tabitha’s body lay. Then he knelt and prayed to the Lord Jesus. Next he turned to the body and said, “Tabitha! Stand up!”

Immediately, Tabitha opened her eyes. When she saw Peter, she sat up. Peter took her hand and helped her to stand up.

Peter called to the widows and other Christians, saying to them “Come into the room and see Tabitha! She is alive!”After they saw her, they went and told everyone in that town.So [as a result], many people in that town put their trust in the Lord Jesus.
